4 week Artist in Residence program - Expressions of Interest
Toot Studio Artist in Residence Program 2024/25.
Applications are now OPEN and you are invited to apply for a 4 week block as per a calendar month for the following months:
November 2024 - May 2025
We are seeking applications from working artists / creatives at any stage of their career, who are looking for an opportunity to engage with the Margaret River environment / community and work from a private space for a month long residency.
This is a studio based residency and includes on site accomodation and needs to be self funded by the participant .
Tariff is $500 per week plus gst.
Included:
1 x private, lockable studio 3 x 3.5 mts (including table, easel, benches as required).
Located on a rural property 3 mins drive from Margaret River Town centre, located just off the edge of Wadandi Track, and right on Bussell Highway, close to all facilities. 15 mins drive to the coast, Boranup Forest or heart of the wine region. Our location is perfect for bird watching, bike riding or bush walking.
Onsite accomodation in our clean and well lit, breezy on site 'Baravan' caravan, or you are welcome to BYO accomodation ( caravan or van) and use it on our property. Use of our onsite studio bathroom (shared only with studio/ workshop visitors). Basic cooking microwave and bbq, fridge.
Toot Farm is a private residential property and your are welcome to enjoy our vegie patch and shady country garden, bushland and pasture views and our old friendly dog Milo.

You'll enjoy an Introduction and welcome into our thriving local art community.
Option to hire of the large communal workshop space to hold your own group workshops. Opportunity to hold artist talks, social get togethers.
Your obligations:
There are no obligations on you as far as your production of work is concerned.
Our intention is to provide the space to a traveling or visiting artist who is looking for time to invest in their work, to bring something different to the region in terms of their practice and to develop or inspire their practice.
Please note - If you intend to hold workshops for adults you will need your own artist insurance and if these include children you must provide working with children checks.
BYO linen, food, drinks, art materials etc.
Getting around:
Transport is available in town if you arrive without a car. Car hire, taxis, bike hire, private drivers all operate.
Buses operate between Perth and Margaret River every day.
Flights arrive from Melbourne and Sydney to Busselton. Busselton is 45 mins away.

We totally understand if you are a quiet, keep to yourself kind of creatice - fear not - you are able to come and go freely and without bother to others, you are NOT obliged to hold events or partake in socialising - you might just be looking for somewhere to work quietly on your own.

Booking Confirmation:
Please make your selection of the month you wish to visit, with a second preference.
Rental will begin at 2pm on the 1st of the calendar month till the last day of that same month. Resident will be required to clean and vacate the property by 10 am before or on that last day.
Upon acceptance of your booking we require 1 weeks rent ($500) in advance within 7 days, as confirmation of your acceptance and conditions of rental. This $500 will be held as a bond.
50% of the balance owing (2 weeks rent) will be due 4 weeks prior to your arrival with the with the remainder due on check in. Bond will be returned on departure.
Conditions of use*:
A full list of conditions will be sent to you on return of your application
*The property is only to be used for activities stated and accepted on your application. The studio is not suitable for welding or hot work, or noisy activities.
*Accomodation is for one person only - unless previously arranged at the time of your application and acceptance.
*Accomodation is only for use by the resident artist.
*Property must be returned at the end of your stay in the same condition it was found.
*no subletting is permitted.
For those travelling with family and staying off site we just ask that you keep the work space reserved for your own use.
Toot Studio is used by other groups/ arts workers and artists at different times of the year. Sharing some facilities will be expected.
Fi's workshops are designed to be accessible for participants of various abilities and levels of experience.
If you have 4 people that would like to attend you can select a date to suit you. We usually need 2 - 4 weeks advance booking. If a date already exists, you are welcome to join the group if there is space available. If you would like to hear about workshop availability please join our mailing list and keep an eye out on social media channels.
For larger groups or groups in special locations, Fi is happy to design a workshop for your group, this might be suited to a theme or personal ability. Yes we can travel to you. Price on application.
Fi's art experiences are designed to give you a positive and confidence building outcome while introducing you to techniques that you will be able to continue to work with independently. Everything is included unless otherwise stated - no expensive materials lists or purchases to make. They are known for being low stress, joyful occasions and a great way to spend time with a group of friends or family.
We offer workshops for groups of 4 to 8 people at Toot Studio in Margaret River, or 16 people in larger spaces. The number of participants may affect the duration of the workshop. Larger school group sessions will require additional studio assistants to be present (class teachers).
